Companies that show, not just tell
October 26, 2009I wrote last week about showing, not telling. But I didn't give any examples. Well, here you go.
Script-based controllers and models, tag-based views
October 22, 2009One of the areas of ColdFusion 9 that interests me in particular is the ability to write full CFCs in CFScript syntax.
Show, don't tell
October 20, 2009Time and time again, I've been able to increase website performance simply by showing, not telling. Showing is a lot harder than telling. Presentations, graphics, videos, Flash animations, and demos are a lot harder than writing words.
Page heading at end of breadcrumbs
October 16, 2009I've become a fan lately of a small trend in breadcrumb design. Some sites are starting to put the page's header at the end of the list of breadcrumbs. It's an interesting way to show how the site's hierarchy leads up to the current page.
Creating great web pages
October 14, 2009A simple chart by Jessica Hagy is perfect when you think about web pages. As the amount of information on your site grows, each page's ability to walk a fine line grows more important.
Aggregating RSS feeds with Delicious, Yahoo! Pipes, FeedBurner, and CFML
October 8, 2009I saved major time creating a feed aggregator by using a mashup of Delicious, Yahoo! Pipes, FeedBurner, and the <cffeed> tag in CFML.
CFWheels is only a hammer
October 8, 2009I must admit that I was using CFWheels as a hammer and trying to treat a problem like a nail when I wrote about creating a CFWheels partial for setting form focus.
Accessible links in printer style sheets
September 24, 2009Using some CSS voodoo, you can display a text link's URL in parenthesis after the link text. This is useful for printer style sheets, where you can't see where the links are pointing when the page is printed out.
Becoming the authority
September 18, 2009Sometimes there just isn't room for you at the top. I've been finding myself in that spot over the past couple days. I'll talk a little about the options I have available and where I want to go.
ColdFusion on Rails is almost here
September 17, 2009We released CFWheels 0.9.4 on Tuesday. This project has been a dream come true. Although we're still in beta, there is quite a bit of momentum, and I imagine that people will take a closer look at it after we go 1.0.
